a tile affair

Located in the historic Hancock Park district of Los Angeles, a 1930s Spanish Revival home undergoes a complete overhaul of three bathrooms.

The inspiration for the bathrooms were Miami, Los Angeles and New York, respectively. The layout of each bathroom was completely reconfigured to improve function, circulation and accommodate a modern lifestyle, while keeping the aesthetics true to its Spanish architectural roots.

Here we played with materials that had juxtaposing qualities from modern to rustic, sleek to ornate. What was once an outdated 10-ft wide pink marble tub deck became a 7-ft wide double shower with breath-taking industrial steel glass doors and a private lavatory behind the wall. What was once a dark, claustrophobic vanity hallway is now a spacious, light filled soaking area with stunning views of their mature palm trees.

This was one of those magical projects where the sum of its parts equate to other-worldly aesthetics, paired with purpose and sheer functionality. This project was realized in collaboration with Studio Lifestyle.
